Our Mission
The Mission of Men and Women in Prison Ministries Universal House of Refuge Center (M&WIPM/UHORC) is to provide services that will promote spiritual and cultural awareness, health education, substance abuse counseling, family development, male/female development, youth development, support groups, and prison ministry through outreach and self-help programs on a community-based level
Founded in 1982 M&WIPM/UHORC was incorporated on June 29, 1992 and obtained 501(c) (3) not-for-profit status on July 23, 1999. Oversight and governance of the organization is provided by an eight member Board of Directors and several volunteer members, who are both professionals and clients. The primary goal of the organization has always been to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS and provided support to incarcerated populations, their families and the community at large. M&WIPM/UHORC has a respected presence in the communities it serves, a respect that has been earned by providing self-help and outreach services effectively and consistently.
M&WIPM/UHORC provides prison ministry and outreach workshops designed to walk community and faith-based organizations through the process of creating and maintaining effective prison ministries. In addition, we provide workshops and trainings for the incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, families of the incarcerated and the community at large.
