The Orphanage Development Project
A Men and Women in Prison Ministries/Universal House of Refuge Center (M&WIPM/UHORC)  and Doris & Grace Foundation Joint Development Project

In July 2007, Reverend Green was afforded the opportunity to travel to Benin, West Africa to research the work being done around the HIV/AIDS epidemic and their Corrections system. While in Benin, Reverend Green discovered an even greater epidemic that needed immediate attention. That epidemic was the alarming number of parentless children in need of shelter. To that end and with the help of the Grace Lawani, personal advisor to the President of Benin, the Orphanage Development project was birthed.

The goal of this project is to not only provide a safe house for homeless orphans in Benin, but also to supply children with the necessary psychosocial components such as schooling, health services, and community integration which are required for healthy development.

Illinois Prevention and Care Discharge Packet

Our new program, The Illinois Prevention and Care Discharge Packet Program, involves the development and provision of take home discharge packets of educational materials and resources to releasees as they are discharged from each State Prison and from the jails located in St Clair, Madison, Winnebago, Champaign, Kane, and Peoria Counties. The goal of the program is to provide each person discharged from the targeted correctional facilities with information that will assist them in making a successful transition on the “outside” and to promote prevention as it relates to the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases; HIV and AIDS; Hepatitis (all forms) with special emphasis on Hepatitis C; and Tuberculosis. Also to be included in the packets is information on the use of clean needles; the location of accessible health care facilities; Case Management and Housing; food; and other social services throughout the State of Illinois. Harm reduction information and tools and resources will also be included for persons living with HIV and AIDS. This program is supported by 46 organizational partners.
